Brooklyn Bagel Sandwich

One day, I will move away from New York and one of the things I will miss the most will be New York bagels. As Kiyo will readily attest to, I am absolutely obsessed with incongruously named Brooklyn Bagel. They serve bagels, obviously, with toppings and spreads such as flavored cream cheeses, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, peanut butter, flavored butters, lox, etc. They also, however, serve organic steel-cut oatmeal, soups, wraps, sandwiches (like the one above), chips, baked goods and amazing beverages such as coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and bottled options.

BK Bagel Breakfast

Despite their name, they have four locations and none are in Brooklyn. We are lucky enough to have three all to ourselves in Astoria (on Broadway, 30th Ave and Ditmars; the one on 30th Ave. delivers!) and the last one is in Chelsea. Not a weekend goes by that I don’t crave a visit to Brooklyn Bagel. Every week, I check their Twitter to see what their flavor of the week is. I have yet to find another bagel place that has such interesting and delicious options. Previous flavors include oreo cheesecake, pecan pie, white chocolate raspberry, baked apple, Samoa Girl Scout Cookie, wasabi lox, halloumi to name just a few. How can you resist!?

Our usual order is two toasted everything bagels with bacon scallion cream cheese. They use lots of real bacon, which I love, since the artificial pink stuff is really disgusting. Kiyo likes to get coffee or hot apple cider, and I get coffee or hot chocolate. Sometimes we’ll get a juice or he’ll have a breakfast sandwich (the one with egg, cheese and chorizo is really good) or I’ll get a sweet bagel, like cinnamon raisin with maple walnut cream cheese (YUM!).

Brooklyn Bagel Flavored Cream Cheeses

I always wish I could get half sweet and half savory but alas, that is not an option… unless I eat two bagels, which is excessive, even for me. One of my favorite savory cream cheeses that I haven’t mentioned yet has artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and olives.

Brooklyn Bagel Delivery

When I wake up hungover on Sunday mornings which doesn’t happen that often, don’t worry Mom!) my first course of action is to stumble out of bed for my phone, so I can call for Brooklyn Bagel for delivery. There’s never been a better time to just load up on carbs, Vitamin Water and fresh-squeezed orange juice to make your body start to feel better (with lots of cream cheese and chocolate milk to improve your mood).

In case you didn’t already get the idea by now, I can’t recommend Brooklyn Bagel enough. Be ready to wait in line; it’s popularity is testament to its awesomeness and the line can snake all the way out the door. Luckily, they’re fast and friendly.
