Here’s a guest post from my friend Laura, a therapeutic horseback riding instructor and boot camp instructor-in-training! When she told me she was embarking on a month-long sugar detox, I knew immediately that I wanted her to do a guest post for WIAW. Enjoy!
So the goal with this whole sugar detox is to become more aware of how much sugar is in everything. The rules are simple: stay to your recommended daily intake (for women it is 24 grams) and no artificial sweeteners (this includes honey!). I can have fruit, but have to keep that to smaller servings. One apple can have between 15-20 grams of sugar!
Breakfast: So I typically am not fully functional until AFTER I eat breakfast, so forgot to take a picture. But I had eggs! It is a super quick way to start the day without sugar. I usually do 2 scrambled eggs with some veggies…lately I have been on a spinach and mushroom kick.
Snack #1: If I treat myself, I usually head over to Earth Fare for one of their juices. This one is called Go-Go Green. It has spinach, cucumber, parsley, and apple. Yum!!!!
Lunch: I heated up some leftover pork tenderloin and green beans. I also had some carrot sticks…I don’t like cooked carrots but could eat them raw all day long. The pork was super easy to make…I just mixed mustard, thyme, and garlic together and put that on the pork. Then into the oven. I put the green beans on the same pan, so had less clean up to do.
Snack #2: Black-eyed pea salad. Another easy thing to make (see a trend?). It is just a combination of olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, black-eye peas, red onion, green pepper, red pepper, and cilantro. Put it in the fridge for an hour and it is ready to go!
