What I Ate Wednesday: Astoria & New York

Smoothie

Today’s WIAW will be very brief, because I just got back from Maine at 2 AM Monday morning, and I’m leaving for Norway tomorrow! And of course, I have to work this week and I made it to yoga yesterday and I have to finish packing (and unpacking from Maine) so it’s a crazy week, and I’m exhausted. Anyways, this day began with my typical almond milk / banana / broccoli / bee pollen / chia seed smoothie.

Amazing lunch plate eyechow

Lunch was odd but incredible. I assessed the contents of our dwindling food supply and came up with a Mexican-inspired plate lunch type of idea. I topped black rice with leftover roasted chicken, a fried egg, half an avocado, salsa, and Newman’s Own ranch dressing (we needed to just finish the bottle and this sort of subbed for sour cream). Everything together was so delicious that I wanted to eat it all over again a few hours later!

carrots and cherry tomato with ranch

I finished the very last of the ranch on some carrot sticks and grape tomatoes. This was OK but boring after the main dish.

Off the Wall Froyo NYC

My friend Jenna and I headed straight from work to the grand opening of Off the Wall, a new frozen yogurt place on the edge of Times Square. Since we had to go straight from work to make it on time, we skipped dinner and instead filled up on froyo (I had cheesecake and cake batter flavors) with lots of toppings (M&Ms, fruit, cereals, cookie dough etc.). Jenna’s favorite topping was the pieces of birthday cake, which was an unusual one that I haven’t seen elsewhere. Since we filled up on dessert, I wasn’t hungry for dinner! I snacked on a couple Pretzel Crisps when I got home, just for a little salt and savory after all that sweet.
